Hello people, Happy democracy day! I am sure you would agree with me that today is a great day. Last week we discussed goal setting, and i believe that everyone has set their goals and are already acting on them. This week however, I would like to discuss one of the virtues you need to acquire on your way to success.
INTEGRITY : Integrity means honesty, strong moral principles, uprightness, honour, right-mindedness, decency, fairness, sincerity, truthfulness. The list is endless. Integrity means everything good, just and right. Integrity is that one virtue that makes you a celebrated hero. When you climb the ladder the right way, the honour that comes with it is always immeasurable. If you look around, you can easily point out those who are highly celebrated because of their strong moral values and principles.
Achievement that comes with becoming a success through the right way is such that you are proud of. I had a conversation with an uncle of mine who owned an accounting firm yesterday evening at his house, and he went on about the challenges his company is faced with due to her moral values and principles. He spoke about his decision on never to receive bribe from anyone in the course of discharging his duties and how it has not been easy to maintain the company due to financial challenges. He lamented so much on the fraud, bribery, lack of integrity that take place in private and government parastatals. But even in the face of challenges he re-affirmed that he would never compromise his integrity for anything. You needed to see the look on my face, I felt so proud of him.
As leaders, entrepreneurs and dreamers, you must never ever leave out the virtue of integrity. If you lack integrity, you automatically lack the honour and respect that should accompany your success. If everyone decides to be honest and fair in discharging their duties in Nigeria, I strongly believe that Nigeria would be a better place. Yes we have people like my uncle in different spheres of profession who are also honest and dedicated to their works but they are obviously not many.
Are you a public office holder or private practice personnel? do you see being tipped to go against your professional ethics in the discharge of your duty as a normal routine or avenue to make extra income by the side? Remember, one day you will leave that office to a new life. But who knows how life will decide to deal with you at the time?
Therefore, I challenge you the new generation of achievers to dare to be different. You don't have to do what everyone does. Integrity and honesty pays a whole lot. The gains might not be immediate but it brings about eternal happiness and fulfillment. Though it might seem difficult to keep up at first, but if you don't give up, you definitely won't see it as a big deal anymore.
Thank you for your time always, have a pleasant week.
